Lynn Jordan: Empowering writers to use technology to write and promote better, faster, and easier

Twitter’s Database Crash

If you’ve noticed that some of your most internet friends have been more twitchy than usual, it’s probably because Twitter had a major database crash this weekend.  Most of the service has been restored now, but some of the features are still not working.

For a fairly new service, Twitter has become a standard way of communicating for some of us. It’s a great way to get started with social networking. Anyone can write a micro-blog post. It’s only 140 characters.  Anyone can write that much.

The Twitter crash reminded me how happy I am not to be working with corporate databases any more.  They always seem to pick the most inconvenient time to crash.  My sympathies go to the folks working feverishly to fix the  data.  I’m just glad it’s not me.  Been there, done that.

If you haven’t already signed up with Twitter, do so as soon as the database allows.  I’ll show you how to make good use of it in future posts.

Sincerely,

Lynn Jordan
