This week epublishing has made great strides toward the mainstream. For two major events to happen in the same week, means that momentum is building.

First eHarlequin announced they will release multi-media books. These ebooks will have hyperlinks to information, pictures, audio, and video related to the text. The first of these books will be historicals, to take advantage of supporting files. Harlequin expects to release contemporary multi-media books as well.

Today Apple introduced the latest version of the iPhone. Fictionwise’s eReader software is one the the free downloads available. It comes bundled with Edgar Rice Burroughs’ Tarzan of the Apes and James Fenimore Cooper’s The Last of the Mohicans.

Another $.99 application supports ebooks in mobipocket and html formats. These reader applications will also work on the iPod Touch. Adobe is also rumored to be working on an application for the Apple products.

Maybe now folks will figure out that ebooks are not just a passing fad.

Write On,
