
Why do you need a Facebook Fan Page?
Many writers know they need to have a presence on Facebook. (I know I keep telling you that often enough.) However, some are really reluctant to set up a Facebook Fan Page. Do you really need a Facebook Fan Page?
Recently Facebook has shortened the name to simply Facebook Page. That may help some of the folks who were afraid they were being too pretentious by setting up their own “fan” page. Some people are now calling it a Like page, since there is a big button at the top that says “Like”.
Facebook is now the second most visited website on the Internet. Google is still the first, but people spend more time on Facebook. It’s a very important site for creating your presence on the Internet.

In my last post I talked about your Google Profile. That discussion led into another Google tool that is closely tied to your profile. That tool is Google Buzz.
You Tube is 3rd for visitors, but it is the 2nd most popular search engine. People want to SEE how to do things, so they search You Tube.
If you have a Gmail account,
you already have Google Buzz. You didn’t need to do anything. One day it popped up in your email list. You were given a chance to add your contacts.
You may be following some or all of your contacts without realizing what was happening. If you delete a contact, you will no longer be following that person. I lost all of my Buzz followers when the hacker deleted all my contacts.
Google Buzz is very powerful. It combines your updates from around the web and presents them in one place. You can include the feed from any link in your profile in your Google Buzz listing. This includes not only Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and other social networks but also your Blogger blog as well as any other type of blog.

After my post about getting started with social networking, I’ve received some questions about Google Profile. It’s a great tool, but Google released it with little fanfare.
Google profile is a great way to get your information on the first page of Google when anyone searches for your name. Your picture will also show if you upload a photo as part of your profile.
Disabling Google Buzz will delete your profile. You can recreate it, if you want. However, disabling Google Buzz will delete all of your connected social networking websites.
Before you set up your profile, get a Gmail email address for the name you want to use. It doesn’t have to be your email address, just use your name on the account.
Everyone needs a Google account. Google has lots of neat tools to help with your writing business. After you have your Google account created, you can start to build your profile.
