My clients, my critique partners, and my writing buddies know I’ve been writing articles for a long time. Lately I’m getting more and more questions about article marketing.

That might have something to do with the fact that I advise fiction authors to write non-fiction as well. It also might be because right now lots of folks are looking for additional sources of income.

Whatever the reason, I’ m getting lots of questions about writing articles.

As I was going through my usual advice the other day, it dawned on me that if I wrote down my answers, I could help more writers. If the writing I speak with want to know, you might want to know as well.

There are several reasons you might want to add article marketing to your skills. Some of the more common reasons are

• Make money
• Share your knowledge
• Promote yourself
• Practice writing non-fiction

Sorry, gain fame and fortune isn’t really a good reason. Article marketing isn’t your most direct route.

My advice changes, depending on your purpose. I will go into detail about each reason in follow-up posts. If you don’t see your reason in this list, maybe some of the tips for another reason will apply to you.
